Atypical Day

A typical work day for me doesn't exist but atypical days are normal.

2:43am my cell phone rings with a sick athlete. Did yesterday's work day even end? Or is this the start of a new day? Either way, I answer in a groggy voice, give my best 'mom' instructions and go back to sleep.

6:30am my cell phone rings again with sick athlete #2. Well, I mine as well get up and do some house chores since I am never home before 8pm. Laundry, trash, and dishwasher are all complete.

8:00am report the injury report to coaches at team breakfast and realize that morning treatments are going to be busy.

8:30am morning treatment, sick call, and rehab. I am still amazed that athletes who look like they are sleeping through their rehab actually do get better.

9:20am take out the med kit, AED, and splint bag and get water and gatorade ready. Run back inside and apply suncreen and grab the bug spray and sunglasses.

10:00am training session starts - we are missing 7 players, and 1 coach. Things are not looking good for me. Its only day 4 and I have to tell coach he can't even play 9v9 soccer. I hope my magic works and we make it to our first game with enough players.

10:30 am take the injured athletes through sports specific rehab and core strength while watching the 11 healthy athletes we have left play soccer Olympics.

11:06am cool down and stretch, I don't think we have added anybody to the injury report. This is a step in the right direction. I enjoy light hearted training sessions when coach realizes those players we have left need to stay healthy.

11:47am mandatory cold tubs, weights outs and team lunch start. I check in will all the injured athletes and everyone is hanging in there.

12:55pm afternoon training is canceled. The look of disbelief on the athlete's faces is unbelievable. They are still waiting for the punch line....

1:11pm desk work and my favorite playlist. Its easier to get paperwork done when your alone in the office. No darts, athletic dept. gossip or random athletes getting in the way.

2:00pm put way practice equipment and coolers that won't be used later because practice is canceled. Field a few phone calls from athletes with updates on their various aliments.

3:00pm afternoon rehab, treatment, and sick call....

4:00pm lock the door and turn out the lights? I actually get to go home early. I am not sure what I am going to do seeing as I already did the house chores.  I guess I will wait for my cell phone to ring changing my night off plans...

6:30pm team dinner - scratch that, no offense but I am going to enjoy my house for a little bit. See you all bright and early tomorrow.

Always working, ATC
