Everything is bigger in texas

....Including the margaritas, burritos, and conference! This year San Antonio was the host site for the NATA Conference. Its that time of year when a city is taken over by khakis, polos and fanny packs. NATA is the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and at conference we attend meetings, education seminars, and alumni socials. This years keynote speakers were two athletic trainers who were involved and associated with Marshall University when their plane crashed in 1970. This was a very touching speech. While in Texas, I was job searching, learning, and enjoying the culture. My favorite part was the tubing trip we took to the Comel River. It is a 2.5 mile long spring fed river, that you float down all afternoon. It took us about 2 1/2 hours, and was so relaxing and a great way to spend a hot day in San Antonio. It was a busy week and I got to see alumni from both Clemson and East Carolina, and some other friends I have made along the way. (Below are some of my roommates for the week, we were missing 2 in this group photo!)
We spent almost every night at the Riverwalk, enjoying great food, drinks and friends. One night we ventured to Mi Tierra, a 24 hour Mexican restaurant and bakery that has been open since 1941. The decorations/atmosphere at this place were crazy, and so was the food. (Below is a picture of the bakery, and some of the wild ceiling decorations!)I also visited The Alamo, which was right next to our hotel. We stayed at The Menger Hotel, built in 1859, which is full of history, and a great guest list: Theodore Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Mae West, and Ulyssess S. Grant, just to name a few. (Rumor has it, it may even be the home of a few ghosts, but they were well behaved while we were there!) San Antonio is an an amazing city, with tons of history, culture, and fun stuff to do!
