After a long day of moving, and not a lot of sleep, I was on my way to Mooresville, NC to meet my old college roomies and friends. We had tickets to the Coka-Cola 600!!!! I have never been a fan of nascar, but I decide to join in the fun. We went out on the lake on Saturday, and dodged rain all day, which should have been a clue as what to expect for Sunday! We spent Saturday night playing games, and enjoying a BBQ at the Sandke's house.
We headed down to Lowes Motor Speedway to get the tailgate started. As soon as we started passing the camp grounds, and other tailgaters, I knew I was in for quite an experience! The people watching was amazing, and I had never seen anything like it. We got everything set up, and then the rain started!!!
Hanging out with Tara, Jay and Jason before the race (day1).
I finally found Blaine and Robbie during another rain delay (day1).

We went into the speedway, and they were able to get all the pre-race events in before the next rain storm. And then we were on a rain delay, which turned into the race being postponed. We didn't seem to mind the rain to much ;) so we just sat and waited. So on Monday, we had to go back for Nascar take 2!!! This time the race started on time, they got about 70 laps, in and then ANOTHER rain delay!! They used these trucks with blowers to dry the track and we were back in action. At lap 165, they stoped the race to honor all those who have or are currently serving in the armed forces. They had a moment of silience at 3pm across the nation. Seeing all the pit crews lined up, and the cars stopped, and silence over the speedway was very impressive. It was an awesome reminder to thank all of our service men and woman and what Memorial day is all about.
The rain continued to plague the race, and they finally had to call it early. I must say, I have a new understanding and appreciation for nascar, and it was really fun to be there!!! I might have to attend another race to get the full experience, minus the rain!
